No 6 done… Bestival & On Blackheath This Weekend…

Last weekend, Hot Chip lifted Festival No 6 in Portmeirion with a headline show that was described by the i Paper as “the ultimate ecstatic expression of their dialogue between rock and dance” and singled out by the Guardian as a festival best.

This Thursday, the band head to the Isle of Wight where they headline the Big Top at this year’s Bestival. Following that, it’s back up to London for something close to a ‘hometown’ gig at On Blackheath Festival (alongside Primal Scream, Roisin Murphy and more).

These are the last Hot Chip shows of the summer and the weather’s looking good… See you there.

Hot Chip UK Tour & Support Acts

Hot Chip head out on a UK tour that’s very nearly sold out – there’s a handful of tickets left for gigs in Portsmouth, Nottingham and Cambridge, otherwise all tickets for other shows are gone. Make sure to get in early as support comes from long time friend of the band Pete Um (Bristol, Portsmouth, Glasgow), new Domino signing Georgia (Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Cambridge – please note Pete Um has replaced Georgia for the earlier gigs after a scheduling conflict meant she couldn’t play them), Lonelady (the first Brixton show, 22nd) and Shamir (the second Brixton show, 23rd).

When It Started… It Started In Time…

Watch the new video for ‘Started Right’, taken from the band’s critically applauded new album, Why Make Sense? HERE.

The new video – directed by Rollo Jackson – finds ‘Started Right’s deliciously warped funk brought to life through its spiritual calling – karaoke – as Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard’s tender-hearted lyrics find a new spotlight through the video’s colourful visuals.

The band played the track live on Conan O’Brien’s show on Monday – watch the performance HERE.

The band also featured as takeover guests in July on BBC 6 Music – listen back to the show HERE.

Following a sold out UK and European tour, the band are currently wrapping up their North American dates which included two sold out nights at New York’s Webster Hall where the band were joined by the likes of David Byrne, Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem) and Sinkane. The band will also continue their run of summer festivals following a lauded headline slot on the West Holts stage at Glastonbury.

On top of the band’s live dates, front man Alexis Taylor has also announced his only solo show of the year playing the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of David Byrne’s Meltdown Festival on August 24th as a co-headline with ’The Sand Man’ himself – the great Alabama artist Lonnie Holley. Taylor will also be performing as part of the William Onyeabor ‘Atomic Bomb’ live show at Meltdown on August 20th.

Watch Hot Chip at Glastonbury

Last weekend, Hot Chip played a jaw dropping headline set on the West Holts stage at Glastonbury that culminated in Caribou-enhanced covers of Bruce’s Dancing in the Dark and the LCD classic All My Friends. If you’re a UK resident (or know how to work these things), the whole show is available on the BBC iPlayer. If not, you can still enjoy Need You Now via YouTube.
